It is officially fall now, so it is time for the November 2018 FSFOA Conference.

The conference will be held at the beautiful Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort in Fort Myers from November 6th to November 9th. Remember that November 6th is Election Day, so please make the necessary arrangements to vote early or by mail.

Our theme this year is “Navigating the Way Forward”, in recognition to our beautiful Sanibel location. The Sanibel Island Light was one of the first lighthouses on Florida's Gulf coast north of Key West. The light, 98-foot above sea level, was first lit on August 20, 1884 and has a central spiral staircase beginning about 10 feet above the ground.

This conference is an opportunity to learn from experts and build relationships with finance staff from other districts. DOE and our other speakers will provide information on new legislation and important subjects that pertain your school district. Our sponsors will have the latest and greatest products and services on display that could potentially save time and money so don’t forget to bring your business cards!

On Tuesday evening, there will be a reception to welcome everyone. The banquet Thursday evening will be an opportunity to be with our families and colleagues in the Everglades Ballroom. There will be plenty of food and beverages so you can relax and enjoy your evening.

You can register for the conference by clicking the link on the lower left side of the screen. Please register by October 22nd to avoid a late registration fee.  If you are not a current member of FSFOA, you will need to become a member in order to receive the reduced conference pricing.  You can become a member by completing the online member application.  The link to the hotel registration site (Venue website) is at the top of this page. The room rate of $139 is available through October 15th .  Should the conference hotel reach capacity, the alternate hotel is the Residence Inn Forty Myers/Sanibel, which is a 6 minute drive from the conference.  A room rate of $124 is available through October 20th if you reference Florida School Finance Officers Association.

We are excited to kick off the Institute of Florida School Finance at this conference. The program, developed by the Finance Council, is designed as a comprehensive training program for school finance officers. This was announced at the last conference and we are thrilled to say Cohort 1 is already full. As you review the conference agenda, you may notice some extra breakout sessions for this program on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. If you are a member of Cohort 1, you should must select those sessions. Everyone else can choose from the nine other breakout sessions available each afternoon.

As you prepare for the conference, keep in mind that FSFOA is now officially paperless! We will no longer have printed agenda booklets but will fully embrace the Guidebook app that has been used during our last two conferences. Guidebook can be accessed on any smartphone or by logging into their website. You will be able to access the most up-to-date information about our conference, including schedules, speakers, maps, and sponsor listings. The conference survey will be conducted through the app as well. More information on how to access our guidebook will be available about 2 weeks prior to the conference. For those of you who prefer paper, a printable version of the agenda booklet will be available on the FSFOA website so you can print it prior to the conference. As in the past, all materials (including presentations) will be available on the website.   The only paper we plan to bring to the conference is the CPE form that you should have signed during the conference and maintain for your records.

Finally, please watch your email for additional information regarding the conference. The draft agenda is available on the conference registration website and will be updated as we approach the conference.
